Apparently school started up again today. I was under the impression I had two more weeks of vaca before the one week of school...but I was wrong. Whoops.
Oh well, nothing bad happened (yet). My co-teacher just laughed at me and asked me how my break was. No classes, just sitting here in frigid temperatures while my hands freeze and I peruse the interweb. I also hacked out a four page paper that I was supposed to write over break. Yup, still got it.
I'd really like to move to San Francisco if only to peer in the windows of 826 Valencia.

Zing!
I took two years of Korean in college so one would think by now my Korean would be outta this world, right? WRONG! I feel as though I've gotten worse if that's even possible. I'm trudging through these language books I bought and got to level 2 on the Rosetta Stone, but when I go out in public I'm one of those people that just smiles and nods when someone talks to me without a single clue in my head what they are saying. I saw an ad for classes at a hagwon, but it's supposedly really intense with like, 2 hours of homework every night. Plus this guy I met at English camp will be there and for some reason I feel awkward about it, like he might think I'm stalking him or something. I wouldn't be, of course, so that shouldn't really make a difference. I suppose I'm just scared I'll be an utter failure and look ridiculous in front of everybody. But since I flaked on the YMCA classes, then lied and told the director I couldn't go because I moved to a new city (I don't even know why I said that, it was like, I got trapped in a corner and said the first thing that came to mind; as if she even cares.) But I'm feeling more and more frustrated about the fact that I can't speak very well because the guy downstairs has been here for the same amount of time and he's pretty much fluent. He even has a home-grown Korean girlfriend. I recently was informed that he found her using some sort of Korean dating website and also that his school offered to get him plastic surgery to remove his freckles.

You Ain't Got No Alibi!

I know this is mean...but man oh man! that is one ugly baby.
I'm getting too bored lately. Looking at pictures of people I don't even know, sleeping until all hours of the day, and reading books. I went to Outback this evening and ate some fish which was delicious. I wanted to go to a dvd place and watch Porko Rosso, but I felt too stuffed/tired.
A person I know from college is going to be moving to Daegu in Febs. Who knows if I'll ever see him, but it's strange I'll know someone...unless it turns out like the last time I met up with someone I knew from college (which we do not mention because of it's utter failure.) BUT! perhaps this time will be different.

Haulin' Oats
My job recruiter told me yesterday that he recently worked with another person named "Carrie" who graduated from the U of MN, is a Korean adoptee, and get this WORKS IN THE SAME CITY....I feel compelled to find her and then do that miming thing where you pretend the other person is a mirror image of you. WEIRD! I hope she's not some sort of evil alter ego dirtying my good name.
I have a job interview tomorrow. I'm pretty excited, although all I know is that it's 12-5 and I make more than I would if I stayed at my stupid public school 8-4 job. So, fingers crossed, everything will turn out alright.
I have had a crush on Joseph Gordon-Levitt ever since I can remember. He had me at Angels in the Outfield. This dance sequence is exactly what I dream about happening to me.
I'll be dancing in my head after the interview tomorrow because, c'mon, who would turn this down.
On a final note, I've been making a lot of panfried tofu lately. It costs me less than a dollar and Jake actually likes eating it.

Doop Doop
I have one month left in this apartment and I've finally made some food...well, J made some food. We had the most delicious apple pancakes last night and today I fried some tofu. Like a real home-made Korean. I feel preettty preetty pretty pretty good about it.

"Well, that's quite enough excitement for one day."
I'm going to try and write a short story based around this sentence. We'll see how well it goes, if it goes at all. I encourage anyone else to do the same which might spur me into action. My mother emailed me to tell me she sent me a package with lefse in it. LEFSE! I'm pretty excited for it's arrival, except it means I have to find butter which shouldn't be that hard but means I have to go to the store eventually.
We went to see Paranormal Activity this afternoon and now I can't sleep. Instead I have been trying to clear my brain by watching sassy brassy comedies, such as Youth In Revolt and now PirateRadio. Perhaps it's because I still feel slightly traumatized by my dip into the horror genre today, but Youth In Revolt wasn't as rip roaringly funny as I expected. As a matter of fact, I'm now in search of a copy of the book because I feel as though I need the story to be redeemed to be better than what was portrayed to me via film.
Jacob is going to Seoul for the weekend with his friends, which leaves me alone for a whole weekend. I'm not quite sure what mischief I'm going to get myself into...probably not much. So far I've bought enough kimbop, ramen, and juice to last me a few days insuring I won't have to go outside if I don't want to.
I've been listening to Yahoo radio lately and the station title Quiet Storm caught my eye.
Quiet Storm: Mellow music to keep your day running smooth.
What really intrigued me was the picture of a sleepy looking Justin Timberlake next to it.

Or maybe he's being contemplative. I suppose this is what he looks like when he's feeling mellow and his day is running smoothly. Perhaps references to storms at this juncture are inappropriate so they had to balance it out with a solemn Mr. Timberlake so people feel better. I remember when the tsunami hit that one place...Thailand or something, Jamba Juice removed Strawberry Tsunami from their menu, which caused me great distress since it was my favorite drink and it was a time in my life when I was drinking Jamba Juice practically everyday due to the soul crushing surroundings of Macy's. It was the sunshine in my life and Jamba Juice stole that away from me. My manager later told me that you could still ask for it, it just wasn't written on the menu and then even later a friend who got a job at Jamba Juice said they changed the name to Strawberry Surfrider. I guess this story isn't really relevant unless the name of the station was Quiet Earthquakes or something like that.
Have I mentioned I'm trying to learn magic? Slight of hand is the next hurdle. I'm hoping my small hands won't hinder me from being an accomplished slight of hand artist. There was an entertainer for the last day of English camp today and he started to do these tricks with a piece of string. I got really excited in anticipation for more magic, but alas, he only did a few silly string tricks. After the camp was over we (the teachers) had to stay for lunch and a few rounds of ping pong followed by badminton. Technically it wasn't even real badminton, just me and another teacher hitting a birdie back and forth. Needless to say, I won. I don't think I've ever played an actual game of ping pong before though because I had no idea what the rules were and lost our game 21-11.

My Life is Now Complete
My audiobook "A Dirty Job" has Fisher Stevens impersonating an elderly Chinese immigrant woman. I feel like everything makes sense in the world again.
I think I'm getting a cold. My head has been all stuffy yesterday and today. I bought a pack of cards yesterday in hopes of being able to learn a few magic tricks. I've learned one already today! I'm going to try it out on one of the teachers tomorrow at English camp. Hopefully they'll be impressed.

STUPID &@#!&^#%~
I am ripe with anger.
"We don't have any openings for Korean-Americans."
"The school wants a Caucasian."
Apparently I'm not "American" enough for these people because my eyes aren't the right shape. It makes me wanna pack up and head home. Except I can't because I'll probably have an even harder time getting a job there. I decided to start applying willy-nilly and hope that I strike a gem somewhere.
I've been reading a lot of avclub lists because usually they have pretty good taste, but one nugget seemed strange to me. Pootie Tang. At first I thought maybe there was some legitimacy to it because the author claimed his friend fell off her chair laughing 10 or so minutes in. So I found myself a copy and gave it a go. Perhaps I'm missing some inside joke or something, but I found the movie ridiculous and not at all funny. I was still placed firmly in my seat throughout the entire thing and barely a giggle passed through my lips. On the other hand, Peep Show is a hilarious show I became aware of through avclub so maybe Pootie Tang is just a matter of differing tastes.
I spent practically the entire day wandering downtown in search for the perfect shade of purple nail polish. I never found it, but I did come home with a pair of leggings and a new haircut. I'm on book four of the Discworld series. It's not bad, but I'd really like to get my hands on a copy of The Girl Who Played With Fire. I am craving a seriously good home-cooked meal which makes me miss home a little too much.
