He's Alive!!!

My new dog was diagnosed with distemper this past weekend. So far the treatment has been working and he's as frisky as ever...BUT he hadn't pooped in 2 days, until this evening when all the magic happened. He started doing his poop dance which means walking around in a very tight circle in the area of his choosing, either outside on this manhole or inside on a pad. Anyway, he had been doing this dance and then running to the door and then going back to the pad for about 5 minutes. I think he had stage fright because I kept watching him to make sure he remembered to go in the right spot. Jacob yelled at me to stop staring because I was making him nervous so I reluctantly perused facebook. Then I heard it....a sound not unlike that of a human in much of the same sort of purgatorial discomfort. I looked over and there he was. He made the same noise about two more times. Now he's happily chewing his rope without a care in the world. I wish I could have videotaped it because the noise was both heartbreaking and hilarious. There is a purebred bichon available for adoption I wish I could have. He's only 50,000 won which is like, less than $50. What a deal! But I don't think our small closet-like apartment would be comfortable with two dogs to deal with. Plus J would probably go insane at home all day with both of them spazzing about.

I've been reading Roald Dahl's two autobiographies and they are absolutely gripping! He lived such an amazing life.

I really enjoyed the latest SNL. All my favorite funny ladies. When is What is Paul coming out? That is my much anticipated movie of the moment since I rewatched all 3 seasons of Black Books this weekend. I also want his sunglasses.

Pup Pup!

I've been somewhat lackadaisical lately when it comes to blogging. I guess I haven't been doing anything exciting. I had a cold for the first time in over a year. It was a doozy.

BIG NEWS! Jacob brought home a puppy for my birthday :) I named him Louis, like Louis C.K. He's a Jindo mix. Jacob thinks he's part German Shepard, but only the lord knows. He's a bit of a handful these days, only because he pees everywhere. Every time I think he's getting the hang of it, he goes and pees in the middle of the floor. He also pees when he gets too excited. I came home today and he was so excited he peed right in front of me. Coincidentally, he also has a cold. The vet says he has almost zero antibodies so we need to take him to get his shots as soon as he's better. I want to hold him and cuddle every second of the day.

His ears used to be floppy, now they're straight up.

I filled in for someone at a hagwon this week and I am absolutely amazed at the students. They speak like, little English wizards. Granted, it's in the wealthy area of town, but it is seriously like I've moved to a different country. They even are reading books like the Magic Treehouse and Franny K. Stein. My regular students couldn't even read the titles of those books, much less make heads or tails of the meaty bits. But it's only for the next couple days.

It's Time to Pay the Price

Poor Brutus has passed on. I have been alternating watching Dr. Katz, Home Movies, Seinfeld S9, and Simpsons to heal my wounds.

I ate too many noodles today and now I am paying the price.

3 Banana Day

One of the reasons I find it difficult in Japan is that I can't read anything. I can make out most Korean words now, especially when it comes to food, but in Japan I'm like a little babe wandering about without her mum. We try to go places that look like they have a lot of pictures so we can point at stuff that looks edible. For example, at this little restaurant there were pictures of chicken satay type wings so we said, "One of these please." And sho'nuf, they brought us ONE wing. It came on this tiny plate with a little lump of cabbage on the side. CUTEEE!!

Anyway, yesterday I ate a total of three bananas in one day, thus naming it 3 banana day. I now have Monday classes so I no longer get three day weekends on which to laze about. I'm going to start looking for a part time job on the side as well because we need to save up the $$$.

Action Packed

Well, Brutus has been hospitalized and I am hoping with all my might that he makes it. The chances are slim, but he's just so dang cute! If only cuteness equaled immunity. Anyway, last night we saw Clash of the Titans, IN 3D!!!!!!!!! The glasses this time were super huge and bulky, not like the ray-ban type I was used to so we had to snap a picture. Titan, as it is called here, wasn't all bad. It made me jump out of my seat a few times, but that's mostly due to my skittish nature than it being scary. I also saw that Kickass will be making an appearance here which pleases me since I heard a few people liked that film, although I have no idea what it is about other than Superheroes. Only time will tell I suppose.

Sadness

Brutus has taken a turn for the worse. He started coughing really bad last night and it has continued. His nose has become extremely dry and snotty. Poor little thing. He officially stopped eating and drinking today so the British woman who works at the shelter suggested we take him back and the owner of the shelter will decide if he can be treated by her own vet. It looks like he has distemper which, I think, is worse than Parvo. I can't bear to watch him suffer. Eventually he'll get seizures and everything goes to pieces. I hope the woman at the shelter can help him and he survives. It breaks my heart to have to take him back, but I think that at least they'll be able to put him down if things get really bad. He's such a good puppy, I wish we could keep him.

Brutus

This is Brutus. The newest member of our little group. We went back to the shelter today and couldn't bear to leave him behind. He most likely has Parvo and Distemper which gives him a 50-50 chance to survive, but we figured he'd have zero chance staying in that little cage and at least with us he'd have a bath and lots of snuggling. He's the cutest little guy, I'm hoping a little tender care will pull him through. After his bath he fell asleep in my arms so I can hardly wait til he's all potty trained and can snuggle in bed with me.

So far he hasn't barked even once although he does make little whimpering noises that make my heart melt. I wonder if he's thinking happy, fuzzy little thoughts now. There wasn't any information about him at the shelter so we don't know how big he'll get, but J thinks he's a Jindo and he matches the description I looked up on Wikipedia :P J named him Brutus. If we are ever in the position to get another one, I'm naming it Leslie.
He's my little precious.
